Today was a rough checkup day. Molly had to get three shots (the first ones since 6 months) and a toe poke. She took the shots like a champ - stopped crying almost as soon as I picked her up. Even took the toe poke well - just sat quietly on my lap even as they pinched the blood out. But what she didn't like was...
THE BANDAIDS.
What?
As soon as they put the bandaid on her toe, she screamed like a banshee, kicked like a donkey, and tried to pull it off.
Hmmmm. Makes sense with her weird "I don't want shoes on" complex but a bit dramatic I think.
It took a long time cuddling with Mommy and Baby before she regained her composure. Good thing there is plenty of waiting time at the doctor's office. Even then, I had to take it off when I was putting her clothes back on because she was threatening to freak out again.
Her Stats:
Height: 30" (78th percentile)
Weight: 20lbs (53rd percentile)
Head: didn't catch the measurement but 63rd percentile
The doc says she is "staying perfectly on her curve" and she is "exactly where she is supposed to be for her age developmentally". Fantastic.
And her iron levels (what the poke was for) were "great". A good level is anything over a 10.5. She was at an 11.5 which was "great". No anemia here. That's good cuz apparently that is very common.
Other things of note:
- We're doing 15 minutes of "shoe time" everyday. She is getting better and will now move around when I put them on her.
- She is on whole milk now...and has been drinking exclusively out of a cup for upwards of a month now...a little sad because that means it's officially time to pack up the bottles.
- Not quite walking yet but getting a little closer everyday.
- Many words but I'm not confident that normal people would understand what she's saying. She's got "more", "mama", "dada", "all done", "nigh nigh".
- She can sign please and thank you...but slightly off the mark. A please is a swipe across her lap (should be a swipe across her chest) and a thank you is a touch to the side of her head (should be a touch to her lips and down...like blowing a kiss). We're working on it.
- Obviously she shakes her head yes and no, dances, waves hi and bye, stacks things, puts things inside one another, started to unzip things, and does the "what's that?" hands
- She can identify nose, mouth, eyes, and toes and just recently has gotten belly. We're working on ears and hands.
- She'll eat just about anything....when she's in the mood for it.
- Knows the cues for going outside: the words "outside", "walk", or "let's go" (that one has gotten me into some trouble so now I can only say it when we are actually going to go outside), shoes, sunglasses, my keys, the door.
Recently, she has also taken to her baby doll. She likes to give her kisses and hugs. Likes when I give her kisses and hugs. And today, she tried to wipe the baby's face with the paper towel that I was using to wipe her face.
She always wakes up from sleep crying. She has done this since she was tiny. She'll be in a dead sleep and then all of a sudden pop wide awake and be immediately pissed at the world. Then, today, she woke up three times without crying. Still popped up very abruptly, but maybe we're making progress.
Since we had the doctor's appointment today and it threatened to rain all afternoon, we couldn't stray too far from the house so we played in the front yard. Notice: shoe time, new-found baby doll love, "what's that" hands, and in the last one she's showing me her "icky" face.
She did convince me to go for one quick walk and you know that it was quick because in this picture she's trying to put her seat buckle back on because she doesn't want to get out yet.
