So Molly didn't really have many requests for Christmas gifts this year. Until we went to the bargain furniture store that is.
Yes, you read that right. The bargain furniture store.
Where she found a fluffy, furry, pink rug. Approximately 3x5.
She asked for me to buy and I said no and thus began the meltdown. And she doesn't do that. Normally she'll just ask to put something on her birthday or Christmas list.
After she controlled her sobbing, she spent the next 45 minutes in the store explaining (through poorly veiled tears) where she could put the rug. How wonderful and cozy she would feel when rubbing the rug with her hands and feet. How she thought it would be "just perfect" for her room.
By the second argument I was going to get the rug for her for Christmas but it obviously should have been a surprise so I kept saying no.
Heartbreaker alert. Her final request was to "have them put a little note on it that says 'this is for Molly' because what if someone else wants to buy it?!?!?!?! (sobbing, sobbing sobbing)"
So I had Jimmy and Kristen run a distraction route and asked the guy behind the counter to please hide it behind the counter until she left the store so I could get it for her.
That guy was probably thinking, "that poor kid is gonna get a RUG for Christmas!"**
So I got the rug.
Secretly.
And put it out on the floor Christmas morning.
As you can see, it's the first thing she notices.
And, it is now right beside her bed. And, her feet (and hands) have reported feeling very comfortable and cozy each and every day since.
**Do not fret. She did not just get a rug for Christmas.
