Molly is a communicating fool. She's some strange combination of a mime...and the personification of an onomatopoeia.
In addition to all the words I've noted to date, she's added the following:
- "Wubba": this, though the weirdest word on the list, is actually pronounced the most accurately.
- "Cars": specifically the movie Cars, and she makes a noise like a revving engine.
- "Movie": she hums as if something tasted delicious.
- "You made your basketball shot!": both fists waving in an up and down motion excitedly.
- "You missed your basketball shot :(": One hand (sometimes two) smacked on her forehead.
- "Muffin": panting (I have no idea...)
- "I want to watch the tractor tipping part of the Cars movie": She tips her body over.
- "TV": Sheesh (?)
- "Help": one fist up and down (this is her trying to do the actual sign language. She won't do it without my prompting - Molly, do you need help? - but once I ask, she will.
- "Excuse Me": actual sign language for excuse me (which looks a lot like her hand washing motion). Fortunately (perhaps) for us, it is always remarkably noticeable when she needs excusing. She will do this without us having to tell her to like 80% of the time. Though she does it while laughing.
- "Touchdown Irish": touchdown arms...though most often I need to remind her to put both up.
- "Notre Dame": she puts up two fists. We're working on getting them placed like the leprechaun. Not quite there yet.
- "Mater": (from Cars....can you guess her favorite movie?) Ma
- "Shoot!": (As a command for you to shoot your basketball) Shoo
- "Truck": Tru
- "Watermelon": slurping noise (I did not teach her this...I asked her what fruit she wanted and she made the noise...we then went through all the fruit in the fridge until she confirmed watermelon.)
- Fox
- Swan
- Caterpillar
- Cheetah
- Deer
Alternatively, you could find me some literature that includes donkeys, hyenas, or koalas. We've yet to really sink our teeth into those and I can definitely pull them off.
On an unrelated note, here is a cute pic of her after a walk with Dada. She knocked at the door whilst shouting MAMA!

She has found a way to get her point across and maybe Ryan with his infinite knowledge of animals can get the noises correct for the huge number of animals she now has to find a way to imitate? LOVE the door pic, such a doll!

ReplyDeleteThat. Is. Hilarious.
DeleteBasically it should be the soundtrack to Molly's life.
I'm assuming that YouTube is "what does the fox say" and you beat me Bobby!!! Andrea sent me that video a few weeks ago and said it reminded her of all Molly's animal noises haha
