While You (Ryan) Were Out...

I've taken to redecorating/renovating rooms whenever my Mom comes into town and Ryan is MIA.  First it was our bedroom....this time, while Ryan was in Montana, we took on the downstairs powder room.

Or the "Safari Bathroom" as most people took to calling it.

Besides the fact that it was unattractive (the lovely animal statues that Ryan got in Africa notwithstanding) there were also some actual issues:

(1)  The day we moved in, the ceiling collapsed and though my cousin's husband (Thanks Scott!) fixed it for us, the crown molding was not replaced and the painting was never entirely finished.
(2) the faucet was broken.  Leaked cold water until I finally turned that supply line off.
(3) the light fixture was so incredibly ugly (I know this falls into unattractive but it was so bad it deserved its own number on the list).

So we did it all while Ryan was out...

Repainted.

Replaced the vanity, faucet, light fixture, and toilet seat cover.

And then made it pretty with new window treatments, removal of the eyesore of a medicine cabinet, new toilet paper holder, and new towel holder.

We even got the crown molding up and added some decorative accents.

As you can tell, Molly was a big help.

Ryan was not exactly surprised when he got home...he knew we were up to something...but didn't realize the extent of our plans and was impressed that we did it all by ourselves:  Molly (Supervisor/Dictator), Nana (Molly's Personal Assistant), and Mama (Molly's Flunky).

My Dad was concerned that Ryan would not like that these things were happening without his direct approval but I was right. on. the. money.   My predictions:

- He will like that the sink works.
- He will like that I incorporated MORE of his Africa thingies into the room.
- He will tell me that not all of the masks I put on the wall are actually African.
- He will think it looks good enough to start using again.

These are almost EXACTLY what he said when he got home and saw it.  Even down to the mask not being African....apparently the one on the bottom left is actually from somewhere else.

But...it looks good.  And it feels like it COULD be African...and most importantly, people won't be scared to go in there anymore.

Now, who wants to take Ryan out of town next?  The kitchen needs some help.
